History & heritage
Hell's Gate, named for its dramatic red cliffs and steaming geothermal vents, was gazetted in 1984. It is one of the few Kenyan parks where you can safely walk, cycle and rock-climb among wildlife — the inspiration for the landscapes of Disney's The Lion King, with the towering Fischer's Tower rumored to be the model for Pride Rock.
